Dear Editor,
We would like to share ideas on the publication “Gastrointestinal System (GIS) Involvement in Pediatric Patients with Acute Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2) Infection1.” The prevalence of GIS involvement in pediatric Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and its impact on prognosis was examined by Kalaycik Sengul et al.1. Kalaycik Sengul et al.1 concluded that respiratory system involvement in the younger age group is less common than GIS involvement in children with COVID-19. According to Kalaycik Sengul et al.1 respiratory symptom severity and intensive care unit admission decreased along with the involvement of the GIS involvement of GIS.
We concur that the atypical COVID-19 presentation is conceivable and that gastrointestinal issues are a frequent issue2. However, it can occasionally be challenging to identify the precise pathophysiological connection due to ignorance. There are many environments where occult underlying gastrointestinal diseases such as hepatitis and parasitosis are prevalent. In a COVID case, the GI symptoms may be directly brought on by SARS-CoV-2. It is necessary to rule out any other potential comorbidity to properly document the GIS issue brought on by COVID-19.
